I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but…

WTF? Add comments

For the last week or so up to the election, gas was $1.99. Today as I drove home, I noticed that the price increased 20 cents in a single post-election day.

I’m not the kind of person to attribute things to conspiracies because they require intent, planing, malice, organization, follow-through, and competence, and that combination of qualities in groups of people is difficult to find. I have no idea who I would blame for such a conspiracy because none of the suspects make sense to me. But damn, if you ever wanted to convince someone of a conspiracy, this would be a strong circumstantial point.

Not really. After all, a gas station owner, especially an independent one, prices their gas based on how much money they think they’ll need to make to fill their tank up again. This is why they’re very willing to up prices if it looks like gas might get expensive, but reluctant to drop them until they are certain that they’ll stay down. After all, if they can’t fill that tank, they’re toast.

If you know that they guy who’s just been elected is pretty much dead set against every policy which might lower the price of gas, you might get a bit itchy.

If it makes you feel better, though, gas around here just last week dipped below $2.80.
