   Congrats on getting power back.

   I do not envy you the shopping trip you have before you. You never quite realize how much stuff you have in your fridge and freezer until you suddenly have to replace it all.

   We lost power for 11 days back in 2006. It was a big winter storm, so it was also around 20°F outside when it happened. It seriously sucked. The fridge wasn’t as issue so much as staying warm, running water (we’re on a well, powered by electricity), etc.

   Luckily I was at the bottom of the grocery curve and only had to throw away a handful of things.

   If it had either been very hot or very cold outside, or if I didn’t have a gas water heater, I would have locked up the house and found someone to stay with until the power came back. But our beautiful September weather and the hot water made life without power acceptable.
