“Scientific Evidence Shows Secondhand Smoke Is No Danger”

The abuse of scientific integrity and the generation of faulty “scientific” outcomes (through the use of pseudoscience) have led to the deception of the American public on a grand scale and to draconian government overregulation and the squandering of public money.

Millions of dollars have been spent promoting belief in SHS as a killer, and more millions of dollars have been spent by businesses in order to comply with thousands of highly restrictive bans, while personal choice and freedom have been denied to millions of smokers. Finally, and perhaps most tragically, all this has diverted resources away from discovering the true cause(s) of lung cancer in nonsmokers.

Scientific Evidence Shows Secondhand Smoke Is No Danger

Won’t someone please stop thinking of the children!

Man Accused Of Performing Sex Act Near Child

FAIRBORN, Ohio – Authorities said a man was arrested after he was found performing sex acts at a local hotel with a child nearby.

Hmmm…. ohhhh kaaayyy… sounds suspicious, but let’s read the rest of the article.

Benjamin Fyffe was caught performing a sex act by a hotel pool in Fairborn.

Sounds like improper behavior.

Investigators said he has confessed to the crime. He appeared in court Tuesday morning and pleaded guilty to four counts against him.

Alrighty…

On Monday afternoon, police were called to the Wright-Patterson Hotel on Broad Street, and were told that a man was seen nude by the pool, performing a sex act.

And…

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man hiding in a hallway still performing sexual acts.

Hm, probably a dumb move.

Officers said Fyffe tried to run, but he was quickly caught. Police said he was performing the sex act while watching a child who was nearby washing a car.

AH HAAAA!!!

I’m gathering form the context of the article that this person was pleasuring himself while watching the “child”. How old was the “child”? Seven? Seventeen? We aren’t told. The article also doesn’t say that the perpetrator had any kind of contact with the child, that the child was in any way involved in the sex act, or that the child was even aware the perpetrator existed. All we know is that the perpetrator was near the child when the sex act occurred, and it’s assumed that the perpetrator was thinking about the child while performing said act.

In court, Fyffe pleaded guilty to criminal trespass, obstructing official business and two counts of public indecency.

So, there are no charges related to actually performing a sex act with a child. The writer of the article has chosen, as reflected by the headline, to stress the point that a child was nearby even though the story and charges don’t reflect any harm to the child, don’t show the child’s involvement, or even his awareness of the situation.

Admittedly, this story is from a lousy local news website, where the writing is typically one notch below terrible and the stories are often sensationalized to an extent that would be comical if it wasn’t so insulting. But the media’s constant harping against the nasty, mean sex offenders and the poor, innocent children has earned our complacent citizenry some legalities that are deeply troubling. Apparently the next step is to make thinking about children while performing a sex act a crime.

Thought crimes genuinely frighten me, no hyperbole intended. I, for one, do not intend to get caught by the growing witch hunt against those who would allegedly corrupt our precious children in any one of an ever-growing number of illogical ways. Were it in my power, I would enforce a 100 yard radius around me that no children would be allowed to occupy. When I pull into a restaurant parking lot, parents would be required to evacuate their children mid-meal. (Imagine, a quiet dinner out!) As I walk into the grocery entrance, a parade of parents and their precious little innocents would be proceeding out. I do not want to speak the one wrong word, make the misinterpreted action, or have the unapproved thought that inadvertently gets me labelled as dangerous to children, and therefore, dangerous to society. I do not want to be anywhere near your children, and at an even grander scale, I do not want to be part of the society that disregards the rights of adults and immediately abandons all logic when children suddenly become involved in… well… anything.

In civilized society, adults should be the norm and children should be the exception. We should live in a world centered around adults and adult activities and children should be raised to adjust to the world of adults, and not the opposite. The cloistering of children in some perfect fantasy world of innocence until their 18th birthday threatens to violate the rights and freedoms of otherwise properly behaved adults, and I dread the day when some presumption about what a person may be thinking constitutes a sex crime.

The guy in this story wasn’t properly behaved, and my point isn’t to defend him. Neither is my point to defend persons who would sexually abuse children; I believe those abusers are mentally ill and should be handled as such. My point is to illustrate how we are caught in a feedback loop of paranoid citizens and sensationalist media whose result is to slowly criminalize anything that makes them the slightest bit uncomfortable. In this particular facet of the problem, children have become an all-purpose excuse to implement all sorts of violations against life, liberty, and property. We’re quickly becoming a child-centric society rather and an adult-centric society, and we’re increasingly producing infantilized adults because of it. All a parent needs to do is cry “My child!” and the accused is instantly damned.

The dystopian police state we’re in the process of creating will surely wreck the lives of all who come into contact with it.
