If the Internet has taught me anything, it’s taught me that Americans are unable to use the written form of their native language to effectively communicate even the most simple idea clearly. I’d guess that 70%+ of people writing on the Internet are functionally illiterate. This makes me genuinely fearful for the future of our technologically-based world.
This week brought two rather high profile examples to my attention, and I want to share the pictures with you.
I don’t know the exact place or the exact circumstances for this picture, and I don’t care to look them up, but I do know that there was some academic reason certain teenagers weren’t allowed to participate in a graduation ceremony. One parent protested with this sign.
Hopefully she won’t be part of the ceremony either.
Secondly, Mrs. Bill Clinton stood in front of this sign to talk about her technology plan.
Perhaps someone’s job should be to look into a technology called “spell check”.
