After posting about it on this site, and after taking a chunk of time on YML a couple of weeks ago to talk about photographing it, I was snowed out of the eclipse this past Saturday. There was no moon to be seen. Sometimes astronomy happens that way.

My son is in Chile. Not only Chile but in the Atacama Desert… the driest place on earth, and probably one of the best spots on the planet for astronomy. Being in the Pacific Northwet, I was locked out of viewing by both geography AND weather. Anyway my son called home Saturday evening (nighttime for him) and when I asked about the eclipse he said: “Oh yeah… it was lame.. the moon was red.”
sigh.

We got a good view in Europe. But I only have a sucky old point and shoot camera, so it was tricky to get a good shot with its stupid desire for overexposure. I’ll get the pictures off it and see if I can find a good one to link here. Certainly, visually it was a nice little event. All clear, which was better than the last evening one we had in 2001 which clouded up at totality.

John, if you got any good pictures, I’d love to see them.
