Aaron’s Broadband Tuner

Mac OS X No Comments »

Not long ago, Apple released something it named Broadband Tuner 1.0, and when they say broadband, they mean broadband, as in, multi-hundred megabit fiber connections right to the home. If you’re like me, you have a cable connection, or perhaps a DSL connection, that tops out in the single-digit megabit range. Apple’s Broadband Tuner hurts more than it helps in our case, however, there are some settings that can be tweaked to make things more efficient.

Weather of mass destruction

We’re apparently expecting some snow in Dayton tomorrow. The problem is, there’s no way to be sure when it’s coming or how much we’ll get. Every weather forecast I check is different. I’ve been through this a bunch of times in my 30 years. We’ve had predictions for clear nights where a few inches magically showed up on the ground the next morning, and predictions for the end of the world that turned out to be a stiff wind. So I’ve decided to keep a snow diary, a table of different weather forecast sources and their predictions, and a record of how those predictions change from hour-to-hour. It seems to be near impossible to predict if snow will even happen, much less any accumulation, and I want to compare the best of what meteorology has to offer with actual results after the storm. I’ll be updating this table every few hours or as the forecasts change (and they will.)

Ok, heads up for the idiots out there: The correct lyric for “America the Beautiful” is not “purple mountain majesties”. It is “purple mountains’ majesty”. Think about it dumbass!

One step closer to financial security

I’m proud to announce that my student loans are now officially over and done with. Permanently. Although I wrote the final check a couple of months ago, I received notification in the mail today.

Congratulations!

I find it interesting that, if something were to get seriously screwed up in the future, the burden of proof would be on me to prove that I paid, rather than the loan company to prove that I owe. At least that’s the impresion I get from that final sentence.
