Over the past several weeks, you may have noticed the link on the right side of the page to David McCullough’s 1776, a book which I finished reading several weeks ago and only now am I getting around to writing about it for this site. My purpose for writing isn’t to provide an exhaustive review of the book. I’m not nearly enough of a literary mind to pretend that I can create some kind of meaningful critique of David McCullough’s work. Rather, I’d like to reflect upon what I’ve learned from reading 1776 and explain why I linked to it on my site.

The city of Beavercreek, a suburb of Dayton, has posted numerous giant beaver statues around town to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary as a city. Two have been stolen and both were recovered today. Check out this live, local, late-breaking coverage from Dayton’s very own WHIO TV.

Every now and then I find something I need to do and, despite my best Google searching, I can’t find clear directions about how to do it. Recently I was writing a shell script in which I needed to create a disk image, mount it, write to it, and dismount it. Apparently nobody who’s done this seemingly simple procedure has bothered to write any of it down, and the man page for hdiutil is pretty thick. But I slogged through it to provide clear, concise instructions for future Googlers.
