Last year I visited my friend Ted in LA and he showed me some of the sights. I wrote a quick blurb and posted it here at the time. Now that I have this cool new photo gallery package, I decided to come back and include more pictures and more information.
Well, the Brady Bunch house is what it is - a common house in an ordinary neighborhood somewhere in LA. If you compare the house now to the house as seen in the show, it’s a little different. They added some fake windows and whatnot to spiff it up a bit. You can drive into the neighborhood and easily get a look at the house, but I bet the people who live there are sick and tired of everyone peeking into their windows.
The MASH camp is a different story. Way back when, the site used to be part of a ranch owned by Fox studios. Sometime in the earlly 80s, I think, the studio turned the ranch over to the State of California, and it is now Malibu Creek State Park. There isn’t much left of the camp itself due to a wildfire during the filming of the final episode, but it’s worth the workout to see the camp if you’re a fan of the show.
I have no idea how to get to the park because I’m not from LA, but something like Google Maps should be able to provide directions. There is a parking lot with a restroom and some water fountains, and I think the charge to get into the park was $8. The hike from the parking lot to the camp is about 3 miles, over hills and with a good deal of time spent in the sun. If you’re making the trip, bring water, and plenty of it.
The trail there gets narrow and somewhat hard to follow now and again. Stick with it. Continuing on past the MASH camp, the Reagan ranch is another 3 miles, I think. I wouldn’t mind making that trip also sometime.
Ok, enough info. On to the photo gallery.
