An idea for an improvement to iPhoto

This past Thanksgiving, my mother brought over a collection of old pictures that she let me keep for a few weeks. I scanned them and imported them into iPhoto, did some color correction, and had two books printed for her and my grandmother.

The fact that iPhoto provides the ability to make these very nice books is a cool feature. However, they’re a little bit of a pain to lay out. I’ve got a suggestion to make the book creating process more friendly.

My idea is nothing earth-shattering. iPhoto should present users with either a blank page, or a pre-designed layout, and let users drag pictures onto the page from the library. Picture corners could be grabbed to resize. Users could drag pictures in pre-constructed layouts and, when dropped, the layouts would readjust accordingly. Pictures would be permanently associated with the descriptions entered into the iPhoto library, if they’re enabled.

Considering some of the software Apple has written, such an idea shouldn’t be too hard.
