Behind the scenes at aaronadams.net

My friend Todd has generously provided colo space and bandwidth for the server that provides you aaronadams.net. He’s out of the country at the moment and had some new racks coming in that needed to be set up, so I volunteered to help him out, along with two of his employees, Mike and Brian. We decided it would be fun to make a time-lapse movie of our racks being built. Read more to learn about the setup and download the movie.

The time-lapse movie was shot with my digital camera and PowerBook. Here’s a picture of my computer, inside it’s new MacTruck (review coming soon!) with the camera attached:

Powerbook, camera, and tripod

The camera was attached to an old, crummy tripod I have (soon to be replaced) with a few pieces of velcro.

Picures were taken every 5 seconds between 8:00 PM and approximately 1:00 AM, for a total of 1,610 pictures. At that point I was pretty exhausted after working my normal job and then helping out Todd, so I packed up and went home. This morning I stitched the pictures together with QuickTime, added some music with iMovie, and the result is linked below for your downloading and viewing pleasure.

Friday night in the server room, 3.5 MB, QuickTime required.
