The Brady Bunch house

During last week’s trip to CA, I visited at least one other Hollywood landmark I never expected to see: The Brady Bunch house. Read more for some pictures.

In a neighborhood along the Los Angeles River sits the house used for exterior shots of the home in the Brady Bunch. I’m not really a fan of the show, but my host Ted offered to drive by so I could get a picture, and I figured, why not? It’s in an ordinary neighborhood where ordinary people live, and there isn’t anything I saw to mark its place in television history.

The house has changed in the intervening 30-some years since the show premiered. Here’s how it looked in the series:

Here’s how it looks today:

Now

A fence has been added around the front to keep out the overly curious. The window on the left side of the house in the old picture is not real. It was added for the shoot because the set has already been built as a two story house, and this real house wasn’t two stories, so it had to be made to seem that way. Add a window and, ta da!, instant two story house.

And that’s about it. Our whole visit to the house was less than 5 minutes.
