Real issued a statement today in response to Apple’s unhappiness over Real’s hack into the iPod. Let’s take a look at relevant parts of Real’s statement and dissect them.
I ran across this quote somewhere on the web today and I thought it was so good I had to share it.
“On two occasions, I have been asked [by members of Parliament], ‘Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?’ I am not able to rightly apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.”

For those who are unaware, Charles Babbage is commonly considered the “Father of Computing” for his invention of the Analytical Engine, forerunner to today’s computers. It’s unsettling to see that some users haven’t gotten any smarter in almost 200 years.
Software pariah Real announced today that songs purchased through its online store are now compatible with Apple’s iPod. Real is able to do this through its own reverse enginnered DRM named Harmony that is somehow FairPlay compatible and was created without Apple’s authorization.
My reaction: Why?
